I was using a very old style oral-B brush for years, but then decided to try this one. Love it! The unique bristle design does a great job cleaning teeth while comfortably massaging gums. There is a 3 month blue indicator to let you know when to change the toothbrush. Also, the contoured handle is so comfortable to hold. Great design! There is a roughened area on the back of the toothbrush to clean your tongue, if you want that. Note, if you're one to clench on the toothbrush, this rough area would likely not work for you (as I saw in some other comments). I'm not a clencher, and the brush works fantastic!
I have been a loyal Colgate toothbrush user for as long as I can remember. I was given an Oral B Cavity defense toothbrush by my dentist. When my Colgate toothbrush fell in the trash accidentally, I was forced to try the Oral B and was amazed by how wonderful it is. I love the softness of the bristles and how they make my mouth feel extra clean. The tongue cleaning ridges on the back are an extra bonus that I also enjoy using. I am a convert. Thanks Oral B!
Yes, I recommend this product.
Although I found this tooth brush to clean my teeth better than my previous tooth brush, I am not sure i will continue to use it due to the raised textured pattern on the back of the tooth brush head which is not visible through the packaging. I can't imagine what purpose it may serve, but I find it to be umcomfortable in my mouth. All previous tooth brushes that I have used are smooth on the back of the head of the brush and more comfortable to use. Not sure who thought of this design, but I would suggest changing it to smooth. I will be shopping for another tooth brush.
No, I do not recommend this product.
Did any of the designers of this toothbrush actually ever try it? As others have mentioned, the hard plastic ridges on the back side of the bristle head feel horrible if you accidentally touch them against your upper molars while brushing your lower molars or vice versa. Also there are three plastic rings around the shaft of the brush about an inch away from the bristle head. These also feel awful as they drag across the corners of your mouth. It seems obvious that these areas on a toothbrush should be smooth. What were they thinking? After a few minutes of work with an X-acto knife and some sandpaper, I was able to salvage this brush by cutting off the offending ridges.

I have been an Oral-B Indicator and Indicator Contour toothbrush user for many years after trying other Oral-B brushes. This Oral-B Cavity Defense style caught my attention and decided to give it a try. After using the Cavity Defense toothbrush I had to go out again and purchase the Indicator style brush. Using the Cavity Defense toothbrush cause me to clench my mouth when the back of the brush touched the other teeth while brushing. It sent tingles up my gums like those you get from high pitch glass sounds. This was my worst toothbrush experience to date.
Audrey is right - the raised ridges on the back of the bristle end are idiotic. When you inadvertently touch them with your opposing teeth while brushing it's like driving over speed bumps. I have been loyal to Oral B for many years without question, but this is the deal-breaker.
Sorry you're disappointed with our OralB Toothbrush. We have strict quality standards and would like to learn more about what happened. Please give us a call at (800) 566-7252 when you can. Thanks!
